Setting: Operating Room


Location: Aboard a Mercy Ship


Role:

Our pediatric surgical team is committed to bringing hope and healing through the removal of hernias and other corrective surgeries. Our Pediatric Surgeons provide pediatric surgical intervention to treat congenital, developmental, or degenerative conditions as well as reconstruction of damage due to injury or infection. You will also manage post-operative care of surgical complications and prioritize patient selection.


Time Commitment: Minimum 2 weeks


When: TBD

Requirements:

  • Active licensure/ registration within the home nation.
  • Minimum 2 years’ surgical practice following completion of the specialty training program. Active in practice (within the previous six months preferred).


Cost:

Self-Funded $200. Volunteers pay for their transportation to and from the ship’s location as well as crew fees and all personal expenses (see sample budget). Crew fees vary depending on the length of commitment as well as what nation the volunteer comes from. For those unable to raise support, assistance may be available.


Financial aid to crew with commitments of 24+ months and for any crew in qualifying maritime roles.
